In fact, selling video games online is so popular that some people are able to make a full-time business out of it.

If you’re ready to turn your game clutter into money, here’s how to sell your video games online for cash.

1. Decluttr

If you’re looking for one of the fastest ways to sell your video games, you’ll have a hard time beating Decluttr.

This company will happily take your Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games.

Of course, the biggest downside to posting in Facebook groups is that you’ll have to make arrangements to meet the buyer and collect the money. (I recommend using Facebook pay to take a payment.)

If you don’t feel like dealing with that, you can post your games on Facebook Marketplace and ship them to the buyer.

By doing this, your games will be searchable to a broader audience of Facebook users, and you have a better chance of finding a buyer willing to pay a reasonable price.

If you’ve never sold on Marketplace before, here’s how it works:

When buyers are ready to purchase from you, they’ll make a payment, which Facebook will initially withhold. You then have three days to ship the item. Finally, five days after the buyer receives your game Facebook will release payment to you.

Facebook charges a 5% fee or $0.40 (whichever is greater) for listing on Marketplace.

Cons of Selling on Facebook: There’s a 5% fee on sales, and for Marketplace, Facebook holds the payment until five days after the buyer has received the game.

3. eBay

eBay is LONG known as a great place to sell video games. And a quick search will show you that there’s a market for just about every type of game on eBay.

You can find listings for the usual Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo, but there are also old-school games listed for Game Boys, Super Nintendo, and even Sega Genesis.

So, no matter what your game collection looks like, you can probably unload it on eBay.

To get started, you’ll need to create a seller’s account and begin listing your games. Luckily, you can make up to 250 free listings each month. However, eBay does charge fees when you sell an item.

Seller’s fees vary but are usually around 12.55% of the final sale plus a $0.30 transaction fee.

4. Amazon Trade-In Program

Amazon has a trade-in program that accepts many different categories of tech items and gives Amazon credit for them.

Right now, it looks like their most popular categories are games for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo 2DS/3DS. However, they do accept other games – they just might not pay as much.

To see what your games are worth, you can visit the Amazon Trade-In page, search for your game and fill in some basic info on its condition. They’ll then present you with an offer. Repeat this step for each of your games.

Once you have the games you want to submit, you’ll need to ship them to Amazon. (They will provide a prepaid shipping label that you can print out.)

After your items are received and inspected, Amazon will send you an email letting you know whether or not they accepted them. If so, you can expect to see a credit to the gift card balance in your Amazon account within two days.

Pros of Selling with Amazon: Quick and easy, can sell multiple games.
Cons of Selling with Amazon: The only payment option is Amazon credit.

5. Swappa

Swappa is a marketplace that allows gamers and techies to sell and buy from each other directly. So naturally, one of their popular categories is video games.

Right now, it looks like the biggest demand is for Playstation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox series, and Xbox one games. However, if you have games for older models, you may still have luck.

To get started, create an account and upload pictures and information about the games you want to list. Then, Swappa will recommend a price based on recent sales.

Swappa collects and issues payments through Paypal. When you sell a game you’ll instantly get paid and have two days to ship it out.

The cool thing about Swappa is that the selling fees are paid by the buyer and not taken out of the seller’s profit. And since there are no fees for items priced less than $50, most of your video games will be fee-free.

You can visit The Old School Game Vault website and enter your product info for a quote. Then, if you’re happy with the quote, you can send in your items. (If your shipment is less than $100 in value, they’ll deduct $10 to cover shipping costs. Over $100, and they’ll give you a free shipping label.)

Once they receive and inspect your games, you’ll get paid. The Old School Game Vault currently pays in one of three ways: business check by mail, Amazon Credit, or Paypal.

eStarland claims to have the best trade-in values out there. Personally, I can’t confirm or deny this, but it does look like a decent site to check.

Here’s how it works:

Use their search tool to enter the UPC of the game you want to trade-in. Then, if you’re happy with that amount, you can send them your game and get paid in one of three ways: in exchange for product, as a store credit, or in cash.

Sounds good, but there are a couple of important things you should know…

First, if you redeem your credit for anything other than a store purchase, you’ll only receive 70% of that credit. Secondly, they will give you a due date, and your games must be mailed and received by then.

1. GameStop

If you’re looking to make quick cash and don’t want to deal with shipping, you can always sell your old video games to GameStop.

To get started, visit the GameStop website or app and enter your product info to get a trade-in value estimate. Then, if you’re happy with the estimate, head to your local GameStop to make the trade.

You can choose store credit or cash for any games they take. If you’re part of their rewards program, you’ll receive an extra 10% in credit value for your trade-ins.

Pros of Selling with GameStop: Instant free estimates, fast cash, and you don’t have to bother with shipping.
Cons of Selling with GameStop: GameStop acts as a middleman, so you won’t get as much money as you would selling yourself.

2. Craigslist

Another solid option for selling locally is Craigslist. This is especially effective if you live in a large city or have “lots” of games to sell.

You can list your games on Craigslist for free. Once you do so, expect to field through emails from potentially interested buyers.

Then buyers can instant message you through the app, and you can arrange pick-up times.

Pros of Selling with OfferUp: No fees, and you can sell locally.
Cons of Selling with OfferUp: Depending on where you live, there may not be a huge pool of buyers in your area.
